Histoire de la médecine prémoderne

History of Pre-Modern Medicine seminar series, 2014-15

The 2014-15 History of Pre-Modern Medicine seminar series will commence with four seminars in the autumn term.

As in previous years, the series will be focused on pre-modern medicine, which we take to cover European and extra-European history before the 20th century (antiquity, medieval and early modern history, some elements of 19th-century medicine). The seminars are open to all.

PROGRAMME FOR AUTUMN 2014

Tuesday 14 October 2014: Dr Anke Timmermann (University of Cambridge / London), Bottled Knowledge: Drawings of Flasks and Vessels in Alchemical Manuscripts

Tuesday 28 October 2014: Dr Jennifer Evans (University of Hertfordshire), Men, Medicine and Masculinity: Male Sexual Health in the Long 17th Century

Tuesday 11 November 2014: Dr Laurence Totelin (University of Cardiff), Retail Therapy: Selling and Buying Drugs in the Ancient World

Tuesday 25 November 2014: Dr Irina Metzler (University of Swansea), Approaches to Cognitive Disability in the Middle Ages: Thinking about “Fools” and “Idiots”


All seminars will take place in the Wellcome Library, 183 Euston Road, NW1 2BE.

Doors at 6pm prompt, seminars will start at 6.15pm.
